A 22-year-old woman of Luano district has been arrested for allegedly killing her three month old baby.
Police sources in Luano district have confirmed the incident which happened on January 4, 2024 and identified the woman, who has since been charged with the offence of infanticide as Leah [pp-logged-users] Chitambala of Kapelembe area in Chief Chikupili’s area.
“Brief facts are that on the material day around 21:45 hours Leah Chitambala went home around 21:00 hours, while drunk and whilst asleep, she slept over her three months old baby girl. However, the infant was heard crying by her aunt, who tried to wake her up, and when it was realised that the infant was unconscious, the aunt to the woman informed the neighbours about the incident,” explained the source. “Female Leah Chitambala tried to run away, but she was apprehended by alert neighbours. The woman was then ferried to Masansa Police Post where she was detained. After thorough investigations, the woman was formally charged and arrested for the offence of infanticide on 19th January, 2024.”
The source further disclosed that the woman, who has been charged and arrested for infanticide has been detained in Police custody, awaiting court appearance.
