Police in Ndola have detained a Ndola house wife for suspected murder following a fight with the husband over salary mismanagement accusations.
Geoffrey Katandula, was allegedly beaten to death by his wife, Rozaria Nsengele, 32, on February 17, 2025.
Copperbelt Province police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba confirmed to Daily Revelation that the incident happened at the couple’s residence in Nkwazi compound, Ndola, between 15:30 and 22:00 hours.
Mweemba stated that the deceased sustained a bruised neck and hands.
“Brief facts of the matter are that the deceased had a fight with his wife after he was accused of having misused the salary and the neighbour separated them. At 15:00hrs the couple fought again and they were separated by the same neighbor. After the fight the now deceased person decided to lock himself inside the house leaving the wife outside,” he stated.
Mweemba stated that at night the couple’s neighbor with the help of the CCPU (Community Crime Prevention Unit) officer forced themselves in the house only to find Katandula dead.
He stated that the matter was reported to Ndola Teaching Hospital police post that the deceased died from a long term illness hence the matter was treated as a Brought In Dead case.
“When the body of the deceased was inspected at the hospital, doctors found unusual bruises on the neck and hands which then prompted the deceased relatives to report the matter to Nkwazi police post,” he stated.
Mweemba stated that when the wife was interviewed at police, she stated that her husband had taken doom, and officers visited the scene and found that the scene had been tempered with.
“Postmortem was later conducted which revealed in the preliminary findings that the deceased had a fatal throat injury which could have caused the death,” he stated.
Mweemba stated that samples were collected for a toxicology report to be taken to food and drugs control laboratory in Lusaka.
“Docket of suspected murder opened and the wife has since been detained to assist Police with investigations,” stated Mweemba.
