Police identify lady who died in the Kafue Road accident which left Kalaba critical

The police have identified the lady who died in the accident that left footballer Rainford Kalaba in critical condition as Charlene Mumba.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that Mumba 28, of Chilenje was identified by relatives yesterday at Kafue Police Station where the matter is being investigated.

“The deceased driver of the Mercedes Benz involved in a road traffic accident yesterday, in which Rainford Kalaba was a passenger, has been identified as Charlene Mumba who was aged 28 of house number 595, New Chilenje, off Nyatwa Road, Lusaka. She was identified by relatives today that went to Kafue Police Station that is investigating the accident,” Hamoonga stated. 

On Saturday, Kafue Traffic recorded a fatal road traffic accident along the Great North Road at Kafue S Corners near Kafue Quarry.

The incident involved Muyunda Isaac,32 of Kamwala South, who was driving a Howo truck horse with registration number AIC 805 and trailer number BAC 9540 and the truck sustained extensive damage.

At press time, the female driver  who was driving a Mercedes Benz vehicle, unregistered, from South to North direction was not yet identified.

The lady succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the accident and the vehicle also got damaged.

Kalaba,  38 of Mufulira, Copperbelt Province, sustained suspected internal injuries and had been promptly transported to University  Teaching Hospital (UTH) for further medical attention.

He is still receiving treatment and his condition has been described as stable.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the accident occurred as a result of improper overtaking by the Benz leading to a collision with the oncoming truck.
