Police in Serenje have arrested and charged Patriotic Front Chitambo member of parliament Remember Chanda Mutale for allegedly assauting two individuals during the August 12 general elections.
Central Province deputy commissioner of police Donald Mwandila confirmed the development in an interview to Daily Revelation on Saturday evening.
Mwandila, who did not want to divulge much information, explained that the PF Chitambo lawmaker was arrested on Saturday morning in Serenje district.
“Hahaha…you are our partners in national service. Yes, I can confirm that the Chitambo member of parliament was arrested and charged with the offences that you have just mentioned. And he will very soon, and very soon appear in court,” Mwandila disclosed.
He further applauded Zambia Police officers in Serenje for exhibiting some high levels of professionalism on the matter; and urged the men and women in uniform to continue on the same trajectory.
“As you are aware, we currently encouraging our police officers to be professional in their execution of duties. So, as Police Provincial Command; we are grateful for the officers for being professional. And we would want them to continue on the same page,” said Mwandila.
Efforts to get a comment from Chitambo area member of parliament Chanda Mutale, who is also Patriotic Front Central Province chairman; proved futile by press time, as his mobile phone was not reachable.
