Police in Lusaka have summoned Socialist Party leader Dr Fred M’membe to appear before the Westwood Police Station anti-fraud unit on July 26, for an interview.
In an interview with Daily Revelation yesterday, Socialist party media director Brian Hapunda said the police had not disclosed the reasons for the summons.
“Yes, our party president Dr Fred M’membe has been summoned and the police have not been able to disclose to us why. Our lawyers are trying to engage with them but they haven’t yet disclosed why they want to interview our president. It is also a well-known fact that our president left the country last week and will be back on August 4, 2024. You can check with the immigration when he left. So, he will surely not be able to go for the interviews because he is in South America,” said Hapunda.
In a Facebook post, M’membe stated that he was in Venezuela to observe the county’s presidential elections.
“No sooner had they heard that I have just landed in Caracas, Venezuela on invitation to observe the country’s presidential elections this Sunday, July 28, than they issue a call out. Mr Hakainde Hichilema, you and your people know that I’m currently out of your jurisdiction,” stated M’membe.
It is not clear what police have summoned M’membe for but in his recent posting he denounced President Hakainde Hichilema saying the moment he declared his business interests and assets would be the end of his presidency.
“The Zambian people will see him for what exactly he is, a corrupt element and bakamutamfya nga imbwa ilile amani. Zambians hate leaders with sticky fingers,” stated M’membe.
