Inspector General of Police Graphel Musamba says police have not yet managed to arrest ETG general manager Paresh, who is said to be on the run after they arrested the two other executives from that company for allegedly repackaging FISP fertilizer in ETG bags.
Impeccable sources told Daily Revelation that those said to have been arrested are Kamal Kamatchi, the ETG supply chain manager and Prashant Rjan, another senior ETG employee, while the general manager Paresh is said to be on the run.
Asked by Daily Revelation Newspaper if the police have managed to apprehend Paresh, Musamba said the joint investigations team [pp-logged-users] was yet to make headway on the matter.
“We are yet to do that. If he’s on the run then the police will follow the trail and eventually they will catch up with him. But for now, the state of affairs is that the police are investigating,” Musamba said.
Musamba also said he was not aware of the alleged interference from President Hakainde Hichilema’s legal advisor Christopher Mundia in the matter to have the suspects released and have the matter quashed.
“So if I am not aware then there is no interference. Who said there is such?” Musamba asked, but told that the same sources who disclosed the arrests even before police confirmed the news, mentioned him in the matter.
Responding, Musamba said: “No! There isn’t such. As far as I am concerned there isn’t such. So there is no involvement of State House into that. There is no interference from Mr Christopher Mundia. Unless you say otherwise, otherwise there isn’t such.”
But put to him that the same sources who disclosed the arrests mentioned that aspect, Musamba said: “I don’t know. I am yet to know if there is. But I am not aware of that. Yes.”
Efforts to talk to Mundia for the past two days have failed as calls made to his mobile line have gone unanswered.
Police the other day confirmed the matter where ETG senior managers have been arrested for allegedly being found in possession of the FISP fertilizer which was being repackaged in the ETG fertilizer bags.
Sources told Daily Revelation that those said to have been arrested are Kamal Kamatchi, the ETG supply chain manager and Prashant Rjan, another senior ETG employee, while the general manager Paresh is said to be on the run.
Contacted by Daily Revelation on this information, police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the police were investigating
the matter relating to the fertilizer but that they would not give details now because the matter was being handled jointly with the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC).
“When it becomes joint means issues are a bit complex. We cannot give a statement as of now for fear of jeopardizing our investigations. But we are investigating that. We have investigated that matter since Saturday. We are on the ground and at an appropriate time when we are done with our investigations we will issue a statement to the public,” said Hamoonga.
ETG is one of the leading fertilizer supplying companies in Zambia.[/pp-logged-users]
