Responding to Chishimba Kambwili is giving him the respect he doesn’t deserve, says Colonel Panji Kaunda
And Col Panji said President Hakainde Hichilema was elected to serve a five-year term, saying there is no government anywhere in the world that can change things in two months.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Col Panji said he does not like responding to anything Kambwili says, including his recent remarks that Zambians must vote regionally to counter the regional voting from other areas.
“Responding to Kambwili’s utterances is giving him the respect he doesn’t deserve. Even mentioning his name is like putting mpilipili in my mouth…whatever comes out of this thing is not productive,” he said.
Col Panji said the fact that the presidential results were neck and neck in Eastern Province, where former president Edgar Lungu comes from, with him getting 50 percent and President Hichilema getting 49 percent, showed that Zambians have said no to tribalism.
And Col Panji said no administration could change everything in two months, saying people must allow President Hichilema to cautiously take time even in the appointments as that is what makes administrations.
“Zambians must be patient. Two months in government is nothing. He has five years, we should give him that liberty,” he said.
However, Col Panji said he hoped President Hichilema will work to professionalise the civil service to avoid the necessity of every government coming in having to change the system.
He said a professional civil service was not formed by appointments, saying in the olden days such positions were advertised for, with the applicants having to seat for exams and thereafter some were even sent for training.
“A few appointments can be done. If it it’s the diplomats, get them to other areas. If we do so there will be no rushing because people come into politics to be appointed,” said Col Panji.
