Ackson Sejani must move away from the “only a Tonga can lead UPND” mantra, and be a nationalist in his new position as Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) chairperson, says State Counsel Wynter Kabimba.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Kabimba urged Sejani to exhibit the culture he he showed when he served as Local Government minister as opposed to his actions following the death of former UPND leader Anderson Mazoka’s.
“And the local government service commission is the one which deals with issues of employment. That’s a difficult one because he was once a minister of Local Government and housing, so against that background he probably learnt something about local government which would made him competent to chair the Local Government Service Commission. But local government as I know it myself is the engine for development for any country,” Kabimba said. “And Sejani‘s task is a mammoth one because it means he has to look around and find competent local government practitioners, as we call them across ethnic diversity. So he has to walk away from that only Tongas can lead UPND mantra, and be a nationalist because local government has to cover the whole country. It’s like central government.”
Kabimba, who is Rainbow Party leader, continued.
“So that is the task that he has. If he doesn’t do that it is the local government staff that he is going to preside over in terms of appointments that will wreck the UPND government and send it to its grave,” said Kabimba. “But as a person that I worked with as a minister at that time he exhibited very sober attitudes. He only came to shock me when he made that statement in the aftermath of Mazoka’s death.”
