Former Defence permanent secretary Stardy Mwale has castigated PF members for cowardice which led to them failing to replace former president Edgar Lungu as a president through the holding of the convention.
In an audio availed to Daily Revelation, Mwale, who is PF Copperbelt Provincial chairperson, said the PF lawyers must offer proper advice to Lungu on the party’s presidential candidate.
He urged them against being cowards, saying they must say whether they truly believe that Lungu can contest elections in this country, and if not urge for the holding of the convention to replace him.
He said cowardice had engulfed the party leaving room for UPND to destroy it.
Mwale said due to the wrong advise given to Lungu by his advisors to hold on to the presidency, Matero member of parliament Miles Sampa and his Mafinga counterpart Robert Chabinga took advantage of the situation. He said the ruling party also took advantage of the situation and working towards its destruction.
“People paid K200,000, not little money so that we can go for a convention. But the fake advisers to the president advised him that if we go for the convention, Lungu will be arrested. So, let’s just push it till August this year. After that then we go for a convention,” he said.
Mwale lamented that the PF party was in a mess because “vultures” took over, stressing that the party was in a mess because of “fake” advisers.
“Fake advisers, scared little politicians. You gave wrong advice to our president then Edgar Lungu. And you should own up and apologise to the party. The advise you gave was fake. We are in what we are today because the little brains you have in advising the then president Edgar Chagwa Lungu,” he said.
Mwale urged all Lungu’s advisers to come out and admit that they offered fake advise.
He wondered why PF members of parliament had stopped contributing to the party’s secretariat, and now they were all very quiet.
Mwale said he should not be counted to attend any party central committee meetings that did not have an agenda on choosing the leader of the party.
He said a central committee had been called but he would not attend it unless the agenda explicitly indicates the choosing of the presidential candidate.
“Today, we are almost half a year of 2025 and we do not have a presidential candidate. You lawyers of PF, don’t be cowards as well. If at all there will be a miracle, if at all there will be some laws, if you are sure that Edgar will stand in 2026, behave the way you are behaving,” he said. “But if we all know that he will not stand, how come you are not advising that we need to have a party president for 2026? How come all of you are quiet? You are more learned than most of us in the central committee.”
Mwale further wondered why everyone in the party was quiet despite knowing what they needed to say.
He said if the party was not careful, it would experience what happened in Kwacha and Kabushi, where PF seats which were grabbed by the UPND on account of the party insisting on Joe Malanji and Bowman Lusambo to re-contest their seats.
“In 2026 if we are not careful, we might be found with no candidate and yet we know what is happening. As Patriotic Front, a real one who is not influenced by cowards, I’m telling you that in Copperbelt Province, we want to know the presidential candidate,” he said.
The former Defence permanent secretary said the party must not fall for the fact that Lungu would be the presidential candidate or else it would not have a candidate in 2026.
He accused the UPND of being on a serious business to ensure that PF did not have a presidential candidate in 2026.
Mwale further called upon his fellow party members to speak up and choose from those who contributed the K200,000s or choose elsewhere.
He asked what those failing to speak were scared of.
“Why are you scared? Every Zambian is looking up to us. What are you going to say when the water levels in Kariba rise and when they bring back power? What will you say when mealie meal is reduced? What will you say when the cost of living is reduced? How will you campaign if you want to wait up to the last day before you announce the president?” he said.
He said most PF members were cowards because they thought they would not be appointed.
Mwale further wondered why the gurus of the party and those who held bigger positions like Vincent Mwale and Dora Siliya were quiet.
“The way you are doing, you are losing members from cowardice. Let us all talk. Lets have a candidate so that we start moving. Time has moved. Some of us we are in court and we will be arrested and we won’t be able to talk. But we need a force behind us so that you can talk for us,” said Mwale.
