TAZARA suspends passenger train operations due to operational challenges

The Zambia Tanzania Railway Authority (TAZARA) has suspended passenger train operation effective  June 18, 2024.

In a press statement, TAZARA head of public relations Conrad Simuchile stated that the suspension had been necessitated by various operational challenges that the authority was facing.

“ Tanzania- Zambia Railway Authority regrets to announce the suspension of passenger train operation with effect from 18 June 2024, until further notice. The suspension has been necessitated by various operational challenges the authority is facing,” Simuchile stated.

“ In the meantime between now and when the suspension takes effect next week, the following will operate regularly as follows: a)Kilimanjaro train, i. Depart De es salaam to Mbeya at 00:05 am on Saturday 15 June 2024, and terminate at Mbeya. ii. Depart Mbeya for Dar es Salaam at 05:00 am on Sunday, 18 June 2024., ” read the statement in part.

“b) The Mukuba train, i. Depart Kapiri-mposhi for Nakonde at 00:05am on Saturday 15 June 2024, and terminate at Nakonde.ii. Depart Nakonde for Kapiri-mposhi at 10:00am on Sunday 16 June 2024.”
