‎The destructive role of money in politics

By Daily Revelation Editor

PF presidential aspirant Chishimba Kambwili says there is too much corruption in the PF presidential system.

‎He is questioning where some candidates are getting the K25,000, K30,000 and K40,000s they are leaving in the structures they are visiting.

‎He says the trend in the country where money is used to win votes will continue resulting in mediocre leadership which is rich but lacking in substance and know-how in terms of governing the nation.

‎We agree with Kambwili when he says that money should not be the motivating factor when it comes to choosing leaders. Zambians should be extremely worried actually when the people seeking to take over from those in government prioritise vote buying instead of advancing convincing programmes they would implement if they were elected in government, or when those in government prioritise vote buying in elections instead of fulfilling their promises or arguing for why they should continue in office through workable programmes.

‎This country is in dire need of development, and we cannot afford as a nation to continue changing the guard in government by electing politicians who bring no change at all besides the motivation of having access to state power in order to benefit themselves and their fellow tenderpreneurs from government projects. In this day and age, we expect to be hearing convincing arguments on how best to run the country from politicians, rather than exploiting hungry souls to buy their support using money.

‎In the hot PF contest for the presidency, we want to hear well thought out strategies from Brian Mundubile, Greyford Monde, Mutotwe Kafwaya, Given Lubinda, Makebi Zulu, Willah Mudolo, Kambwili himself, among others, on how best they would address the most pressing problems in the country, such as the high fuel prices, high cost of living and the loadshedding. They should provide compelling arguments on how they would address the problem of unemployment and other matters affecting the Zambian people. Zambians are tired of hearing them just criticise President Hakainde Hichilema and the UPND administration. If they are criticising, Zambians want to hear what solutions they are offering to those issues they are raising in their criticisms.

‎We should never entertain as a nation, politicians who are blank on substance but then use money to get the presidency of a political party and the Republic. A huge premium should be placed on those who are seeking the presidency, and this extends to all the opposition leaders including Citizens First (CF) leader Harry Kalaba, Fred M’membe, Kapembwa Simbao, Sakwiba Sikota, Chishala Kateka, Saboi Imboela, Sean Tembo, Kelvin Bwalya Fube, among the many others.

‎The country wants solutions as opposed to politicians who buy their way to the top using money.
