A Non- Governmental Organisation(NGO) from Turkey called Universal Islamic and Cultural Trust (UICT) has partnered with Luangeni Member of Parliament Moses Moyo to drill 21 boreholes in the constituency at the cost of more than K200,000.
UICT country representative Mehmet Zorlu says his institution has already drilled seven boreholes for the people in the constituency out of the targeted 21.
Speaking during the handover of a borehole to the people in Luangeni village, Zorlu said that his UICT targets to supplement Government efforts of ensuring that people have access to clean water and good sanitation.
He said the organisation is embarking on drilling boreholes in six villages within Luangeni constituency that have no access to clean drinking water.
He commended the Luangeni independent lawmaker for his efforts to ensure that the people of Luangeni constituency have access to drinking water as a human right.
And Moyo said the partnership with UICT came about after the Turkish people came to know about what was he was doing to ensure that the electorate in Luangeni constituency had clean water to use.
He said when he was aspiring as a Member of Parliament for Luangeni constituency, he drilled 41 boreholes for the electorate.
The Luangeni lawmaker said on average, 60 percent of villages in his constituency have access to clean drinking water.
Moyo, who is also the second deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, said many people in his constituency are still in the appealing state to have access to clean drinking water.
Moyo commended UICT for coming on board to drill the 21 boreholes for the people of Luangeni in order to alleviate the challenges that the people in the area have been facing.
