United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) chairperson Sakwiba Sikota says the alliance is still intact despite the exit of Harry Kalaba’s Citizens’ First (CF) party.
In an interview yesterday, Sikota said UKA was talking with different political parties to join because Zambians wanted to see the opposition united. Sikota was reacting to concerns from some members who alleged that Kalaba’s decision to exit from the alliance was the end of UKA.
Kalaba announced his exit from UKA on Wednesday after the party national youth wing and women movement demanded CF’s withdrawal from UKA in the interest of spearheading the national agenda anchored on unity of purpose.
After the CF announcement, NDC leader Saboi Imboela ,who is also part of UKA leadership, welcomed Kalaba’s exit.
In her Facebook post, Imboela stated that Kalaba was one of the most serious opposition leaders ready to form government next year.
Daily Revelation got in touch with Sikota to inquire on the future of the alliance.
In response, Sikota said the plans and the future would be the same. He said Zambians wanted to see a united opposition working together and that what UKA was doing was a great thing and would not let its eyes be taken away from achieving its focus.
“If UKA was dead, you would not have called to ask your questions,” Sikota said. “The future and plans will always be the same to carry on with working for the Zambian people, and also what you have seen us doing, working hard to bring parties together.
