It is that time of the season again in this country when the craziness that has been so carefully crafted in the dark decides to openly show its senile and ugly self to the nation.
This vile debate to amend the constitution in order to extend the term limit for Presidents from five years to seven years has not developed out of opaqueness. This is something that has been carefully discussed in private circles. There has been a well-choreographed plan, including on how the fringe abnormality would be introduced into the mainstream, and which specific surrogates were going to be used to set the ball rolling. In fact, just a little digging on the surrogates and their identities will clearly show their political affiliations and their real sponsors into the civil society foray.
In essence, these are political animals, who have been attached to civil society in order to promote partisan agendas to make them appear credible. To introduce their masters’ agendas using the civil society spectrum to show some appearance of legitimacy in order to make it easier for the main actors when they finally take up the matter publicly. That’s how matters are handled in this country, hence our argument that this discussion about increasing the presidential term limit started a long time ago, and now is the opportune time to bring out the vileness.
But the only problem is that those who are sensible and discerning will fall into the trap without noticing that their efforts will only be helping to add fire to a very narrow agenda birthed by idiots. The more those who are wise will come out to take the bait by debating the ones who are proposing the vile agenda, the more they will be aiding this vileness. The best service those who are wise can do is to consign the vile agenda to the dustbin. Increasing the term limits is not a matter of public debate. This is a fringe doctrine that should be repudiated forcefully now before it gets traction in a few simple minds out there.
Don’t debate the surrogates. Just name and shame them and let them know that Zambians will not accept the nonsense. And this should be done before their masters become emboldened to actually come out publicly to embrace the vileness they crafted in secrecy.
Zambians have spoken from time immemorial that they are satisfied with five-year term limits for Presidents and other elected officials. It’s only narrow minded idiots that would seek to change the same for their own selfish interests, frightened little men who are scared of their own shadows.
And we are urging President Hakainde Hichilema to come out immediately by putting an end to this debate, especially that he is a direct beneficiary of the idea some nincompoops are pushing. He must stand before the people of Zambia and assure them that he swore to defend and protect the constitution of this country, and therefore does not accept the idea of anyone talking about raping the constitution he swore to protect, by advancing funny proposals to amend it.
He must be forthright as someone who promised to uphold and enhance democracy in this country that he shall not allow anyone in his party to even engage in debate seeking to mutilate our constitution, and follow that up by directing himself and his subjects that the five-year term limit they were elected upon will stand the test of time.
