EX-Chipolopolo striker Mwape Miti has praised Power Dynamos midfielder Joshua Mutale’s form this season and believes he will be key in this weekend’s must-win 2023/2024 CAF Champions League date against Simba SC away in Tanzania.
Mutale has been in hot form this season for the defending MTN /FAZ Super League champions with key assists for the Kitwe giants for whom he has scored two goals from nine competitive matches.
Former Power striker Miti said in an interview from Kitwe yesterday that he is pleased to see Mutale showing more maturity this season at Arthur Davies Stadium just over three seasons after he was promoted from the clubs’ developmental team Young Power Dynamos.
“Honestly he has really improved, if you look at his performance critically, he is the player we are depending on to make us win the game at Simba this weekend,” said Miti.
“He should just continue to working very hard because he has a very bright future and he is on the right track with his football.”
Mutale was Powers’ stand-out player in the CAF Champions League pre-group stage, first leg, and home match against Simba on September 16 that ended 2-2 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The 21-year-old midfielder scored the game’s opening goal in the 22nd minute and held his own in the middle of the park against his more experienced Chipolopolo compatriot Cletus Chama who scored a brace for Simba.
Mutale has also produced stand-out performances in the league so far this season with the latest coming on Sunday in the 2-2 draw against Zesco United despite not finding the target.
Meanwhile, Power heads to Tanzania tomorrow ahead of their CAF Champions League group stage qualification fixture against Simba in Dar es Salaam.
However, it will be the end of the road for the loser on Saturday because this season’s continental competition format will not see them demoted to the CAF Confederation Cup whose group stage sides will also be determined this weekend.
