Economic Front (EF) leader Wynter Kabimba says no one needs to speculate by now the inherent capacity in the UPND government to lie, saying the price of fuel has been reduced minimally in order to be increased sharply.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Kabimba said he was saddened with the UPND economic policy which seemed to be anchored on the outside.
“I don’t think that one needs to really speculate by now as to what the capacity inherent in the UPND government to tell lies. I think they have scored the first. And also even in-terms of their capacity to manage the economy, they strongly believe that the solutions to the economic downturn to this country lie outside this country and not in the Zambian people themselves. That is their religion,” Kabimba said. “So that’s why you will find that a whole President has got the time to meet the legal counsel from the IMF, IMF legal counsel! And the President can go on social media to send a message that today we had good discussions with an IMF legal counsel, a very junior officer.”
Kabimba argued against the move put forward that fuel prices were reduced on account of the appreciation of the Kwacha against the USA dollar and other major convertible currencies.
“I don’t want to get into the other reasons which they have given. Let’s take that as a reason. When the Kwacha was at K18, they increased the pump price of fuel from K17 to K26. The Kwacha now has only appreciated by less now to K17, and they are reducing the pump price by K2.53,” said Kabimba. “So I am not economist, I am a lawyer, but this doesn’t even require economics. This requires common sense that this reduction is not a genuine reduction. It has an underlying intention to come back and hurt the Zambian people more, but under the guise that but we had reduced fuel, and so we have just increased. So we are going to live under UPND under one lie after another lie.”
