PF members are complaining that we cannot continue being guided by an acting president, says presidential aspirant Chishimba Kambwili.
Speaking with Daily Revelation on the defections which have rocked the former ruling party, Kambwili said the PF needs to immediately elect a substantive leader to give assurance to the members.
“Remember what I said the other time you interviewed me that we need the convention at electing of a substantive president like yesterday because the biggest complaint that our members have had is that we can’t continue on the trajectory of having an acting president,” Kambwili said. “And they feel that may be serious funders of the party will only come on board once they see who is a leader, who is going to take this party to the general elections in 2026.”
However, Kambwili said he had no control over individuals wanting to join political parties of their choice, but that the only thing he would appeal to them was patience, saying it was not a good thing to rush things because they would regret doing so.
He said it was not that he had a personal relationship with the people that support him, arguing that they supported him based on how they understood him and his leadership qualities.
“I don’t have a personal relationship that I can control what they want to do,” said Kambwili. “It’s unfortunate people are leaving the party because we need to consolidate our numbers if we have to be serious about bouncing back into office, to government.”
However, he argued against one of the defectors, Papa Gunasi’s assertion that he was leaving because of bunkosa mutwe waba Lungu (Lungu’s hard headedness)”, saying it was disrespectful to refer to the former president as such as he was not the cause for the delay to hold the convention.
Kambwili said Lungu was a head of state and must be treated as statesman, saying he did not subscribe to people calling him “nkosa mutwe.”
Asked if he had a plan b in the event PF did not hold the convention, Kambwili said his plan was always to remain in PF
