State Counsel Sakwiba Sikota says he wants President Hakainde Hichilema and his people to be on oath over their rejection to Milingo Lungu’s claims that he met them and was promised immunity.
Speaking with Daily Revelation on the President’s refusal yesterday that he and his officials never met former KCM liquidator Milingo Lungu to promise him immunity from prosecution, Sikota, who is one of the lawyers representing Milingo, said they were anxiously waiting President Hichilema’s people to put in affidavits to the court action taken by Lungu, saying they too will respond through further affidavits.
“And I am sure the Zambian people are also all waiting to see what they will say in their affidavits. Because the good thing about affidavits is that you making an oath. we want him to be in oath and also his people to be on oath. Yes the President and anybody else who wishes to dispute the facts which are in the affidavit. The best way and a proper way is for them to file in sworn affidavits to which we shall then be able to respond,” Sikota said, saying he would restrict to respond to the matter through court documents. “So when they file and I hope they will file, we shall file a response affidavit. And the good thing about what is in court is that it’s on oath. What is filed is on oath. If somebody swears a false affidavit they can be liable to perjury and contempt and so forth. So let us just keep it in the courts. Let us make our statements, I am talking about both sides. Let’s make our statements through the courts, through filed sworn affidavits.”
