We want to beat Power – Nkana Coach

My job as Nkana coach is to beat Power Dynamos in the derby, stated Mwenya Chipepo ahead of Sunday’s Kitwe derby home fixture to be played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Chipepo will face his ex-club for the second time at the helm of Nkana on April 20 in search of back-to-back derby victories following his appointment in October 2024.

Nkana beat Power 2-1 at Levy on December 7.

Chipepo said in an interview with Revelation Sports that Power are still very wounded to have lost at home.

“We know Power will be eyeing revenge but we also want maximum points. There is no easy game for us because if you look at our previous games, all the teams are coming with full force. It will be a tough game. I am a former Power coach, yes but at the moment I am with Nkana and I need to do my job. We need to pick maximum points,” Chipepo said.

But this weekend’s Kitwe derby is a very big deal for Power because a victory over Nkana would give them the 2024/2025 FAZ Super League title.

“Pressure will be on Power because they want to wrap up the league. As a coach, we will not make it easy for them because this is a game,” Chipepo said.

Nkana is third on the FAZ Super League table and out of the league title race with three games left and nine points behind leaders Power.

But Nkana still has interest in a runners-up finish and are three points behind Zesco United on 54 and 57 points with three games left to play.

Second place earns the league runners-up a CAF Confederation Cup qualification berth.

“We want points to finish second on the table. Whether I am playing my brotherhood club, brotherhood aside, we are looking for points,” Chipepo said.

“All my education was sponsored by Power but I am at Nkana and I have a job to protect. I am here to deliver a win for Nkana. It will be a highly tactical game,” said Chipepo.
