Bruce Mwape admits Zambia’s narrow lead over Ghana must be treated cautiously but has faith in his girls to deliver again in Wednesday’s 2024 Olympic third round, final leg qualifier in Ndola.
Zambia will head into the February 28 third round, final leg fixture at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola armed with a narrow 1-0 victory over Ghana they got on February 23 in Accra.
But Zambia were tested in the second half of the first leg match after dominating the first half in which they deservedly took an 18th minute lead through Rachael Kundananji.
“They just have to be cautious, we don’t want to play an open game as if we have already won the tie until we score. We still need to win this game in the first half if we can manage to score two or three goals then we are home and dry,” Mwape said.
“But one-zero is one step forward”
Meanwhile, Mwape said Zambia are very cautious of Ghana heading into Wednesday’s final leg especially playmaker Doris Boaduwaa who twice in the match brought the best out of Zambia goalkeeper Catherine Musonda.
“We have seen how they play they are dangerous on the set-pieces, especially corners,” Mwape said.
Zambia landed in Ndola yesterday from Accra via Addis Ababa while Ghana arrived late Saturday afternoon after flying from Accra to Ndola via Johannesburg.
The winner over both legs will advance to the final round qualifiers in April where they will play Tunisia or Morocco.
Morocco made headway in qualifying for April’s final hurdle on Friday with a 2-1 away win over Tunisia.
They will host Tunisia on Wednesday evening in Rabat.
