You must question yourself when something bad happens to you and people are celebrating, says Chishimba Kambwili.
Kambwili was asked by Daily Revelation on his views over the arrest of former deputy inspector general of police Charity Katanga by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) over possession of property suspected to be proceeds of crime.
Responding, Kambwili said what is happening in the country today must teach people lessons that there is nothing in perpetuity, saying one could be DEC or police chief today, but it does not mean that they will be there forever, and therefore the best they can do, including those that are governing today, is to do the right thing and operate within the law.
“You must know that nothing is there in perpetuity. You can be president today but you won’t be president in perpetuity…you must be exemplary so that when bad happens to you, people sympathize with you,” Kambwili said. “When bad happens to you and people celebrate it clearly shows…you should question yourself how you conducted yourself as police chief or somebody else when something bad happens and people are celebrating.”
Kambwili said he would not talk about Katanga as an individual, and would not celebrate another person’s suffering just because they did bad to him.
He said he was saying so aware of the fact that Katanga was in “the forefront to ensure I suffered any time there was an arrest.”
“When you are in a position of authority, do the right thing and treat people well,” said Kambwili, however, adding that Katanga should be treated as an innocent person until proven guilty
