Zambia Must Prosper joins Tonse

Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) secretary general Abraham Kashinshinte has announced that his party has formally joined the Tonse Alliance.

In a statement yesterday, Kashinshinte stated that the decision to join Tonse Alliance was a significant development in the party’s journey which would bolster the party’s influence and foster a stronger opposition front.

He stated that the decision was made at a meeting they had on January 22, 2025 which took place at Pantegon.

“After thorough deliberations, the meeting resolved that Zambia Must Prosper (ZMP) will formally join the Tonse Alliance. This strategic move is expected to bolster our party’s influence and foster a stronger opposition front,” he stated.

Kashinshinte stated that the party was excited about the new chapter and believed that it would usher in a fresh wave of opportunities for growth, collaboration and service to the nation.

“While the details of this agreement are still being finalized, rest assured that we will keep you informed every step of the way in due course. We will share more information regarding the terms of our partnership, the benefits it entails and how it will impact our party’s future endeavours,” stated Kanshinshinte.

In December last year, photos of former president Edgar Lungu and Zambia Must Prosper leader Kelvin Bwalya Fube emerged on social media indicating a light conversation between the two while sharing a meal.

Zambia Must Prosper becomes the second opposition party to join the Tonse Alliance this year after Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) joined early this year with a call for a unified opposition to challenge the UPND ahead of the 2026 general elections.
