Zambia to host 2025 CAA-SR championship

Zambia has been handed the rights to host the 2025 Confederation of African Athletics Southern Region (CAA-SR) Cross Country Championship that will take place this December in Lusaka.

Zambia Athletics general secretary Teddy Shimishi stated that the CAA-SR Cross Country Championship will be held on December 6 with 14 regional nations taking part.

“Zambia Athletics is pleased to announce that Zambia, through Zambia Athletics, was awarded the hosting rights for the 2025 Confederation of African Athletics Southern Region Cross Country Championship by the Confederation of African Athletics Southern Region on 25th June 2025, ” Shimishi stated. 

Shimishi stated the event will comprise of five races.

Athletes will compete in the senior men’s 12 kilometer, senior women’s 10 kilometer, junior men’s 8 kilometer, junior women’s 6 kilometers and the mixed relay that will be composed of two male and two female runners.

The CAA-SR Cross Country Championships will be used as a qualifier for the 2026 World Cross Country Championships that the USA will host on January 10, 2026, in Tallahassee, Florida.

Shimishi said selection for team Zambia starts immediately with the respective provincial cross-country championships that will culminate in the final team draft at the National Cross Country Championship which will be held on November 1.
