Zambia working on winning CHAN – Kabaso

Defender Kabaso Chongo says Chipolopolo are seriously working towards the objective of winning the 2025 CHAN in East Africa next month.

The 30-member home-based Chipolopolo Zambia team entered camp over the weekend for the 2025 CHAN that will be co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda from February 1 to 28.

Kabaso said in a post-training interview that expectations were high after a number of successful qualifiers by the men’s and women’s senior and junior national teams.

“We are excited to be in camp, and we are preparing hard and morale is good,” Kabaso said.

“The target we have been given is to win CHAN but we have to work as a team and we also need to show seriousness because this is our first tournament in 2025.”

Chipolopolo has not reached the CHAN semifinals since 2009 when they finished third at the inaugural tournament held in Ivory Coast.

Since then Zambia has gone on to quarterfinal exits in 2016, 2018, and 2020/21 and failed entirely to qualify for the 2023 tournament.
