Zedfarmer Maria Zaloumis and four others have been charged with murder in connection with the death of a 22 year old man who died after they allegedly beat him.
In a statement yesterday, Zambia Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that police in Kabwe had concluded investigations into the murder of Enock Simfukwe Kasengele, of 16 Miles along Kabwe–Lusaka Road.
“Following investigations, police today, August 28, 2025, have jointly charged and arrested five suspects for one count of Murder, contrary to Section 200, Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
Those arrested are: 1.Nathaniel Barthrem, 34, a Nigerian national.
2.Maria Francis Zeleni Zaloumis, aged 40, of Wonani Farm in Montana.
3.Daniel Chiluwa, 40, a farm manager of Onani Farm No. 5, Montana area.
4.Fortune Mwitangati, 23, of Nyambe Farm. 5.Gift Daka, 25, of Onani Farm,” Hamoonga stated.
He stated that all the suspects were in police custody and would appear in court soon.
Hamoonga assured the public that the police would continue to pursue justice without fear or favour and ensure that those who committed serious crimes were held accountable.
