MMD NAME DENTED AND BEYOND REDEMPTION … party leadership to change name to New Democracy Movement

The MMD is set to change its name to the New Democracy Movement, sources have disclosed.

And New Hope MMD national secretary Elizabeth Chitika has confirmed that the National Executive Committee of the former ruling party is set to change its name, colours and logo as a way of rebranding.

According to sources within the former ruling party, the Dr Nevers Mumba led New Hope MMD national executive committee members have resolved to change the political party’s name in a quest to rebrand the political organisation.

“Following the National Executive Committee meetings that we have been having, it has been resolved that the name MMD  will be done away with,” the source explained to Daily Revelation media. “And as such, going forward the MMD will now be called the New Democracy Movement.”

The source further explained that name MMD is dented and majority Zambians have lost confidence in it, saying despite the New Hope MMD leadership making attempts to regain its lost glory and public confidence for the past seven years, the MMD has failed to regain the trust of majority citizens.

“The name MMD is dented and the New Hope MMD leadership has for the past seven years tried to bring back the lost glory of the MMD, but that has not worked out,” said the source. “It is like the Zambian people have moved on and the name MMD is beyond redemption.”

And when contacted for a comment, Chitika said that the New Hope MMD National Executive Committee has resolved to change and rebrand former ruling party, but refuted assertions that the proposed name is not going to be New Democracy Movement.

“What I can confirm is that the National Executive Committee members passed a resolution on October 2, 2021 to change the name of the MMD to another name. And that resolution has since been reaffirmed by the National Executive Committee meeting that recently sat on 16th December,” Chitika said. “The decision to change the name of the MMD was arrived at after wide consultations and critical analysis by the NEC members.”

Asked if she can be on firm ground to state that the proposed change of the MMD is the New  Democracy Movement, Chitika said that the New Hope MMD National Executive Committee will soon make its position known “publicly.”

“Don’t bother yourself too much about the new name. It will soon be made public. But I can confidently tell you that we are changing the name of the party, the colours and the logo,” said Chitika.
