A 21 year old pregnant woman of Luano district has died after being attacked by a crocodile after she went fishing.
Both Senior Chief Mboroma of the Lala speaking people of Luano and Luano district commissioner Kells Meleki confirmed the development in an interview.
Senior Chief Mboroma identified the deceased as Ziya [pp-logged-users] Mumba adding that the pregnant woman met her fate on Saturday around 06:00 hours while fishing from Mulembo River.
“Due to hunger, my subjects are forced to venture into various income generating activities. And this woman you are talking about went fishing in Mulembo River between 05 to 06:00 hours. Unfortunately while fishing, she was attacked by a crocodile and sustained multiple injuries on her thighs and legs. At the time she was being rescued from the reptile by onlookers, she had lost life because of heavy bleeding,” said senior Chief Mboroma.
And Luano district commissioner Kells Meleki said that the body of the deceased has not been deposited in the local clinic, owing to the distance from where the incidence occured.
“You know, this calamity happened in Luano Valley where accessibility is difficulty and transportation of the body has been a challenge. And as you may be aware, this woman was pregnant at the time she was attacked by the crocodile. And because of the distance from the village where she died and the health centre, the body has been kept at the funeral house, awaiting burial,” said Meleki. [/pp-logged-users]
