Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba has charged that President Hakainde Hichilema will one day “find that we are the ones controlling power” and that he too will be “persecuted.”
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Mwamba said he was readying himself to be arrested today and has even prepared blankets to spend nights in police cells.
He insisted that he will be arrested today, claiming “and they have been instructed to detain me.”
“I don’t know where they will detain me but now we are going at new Home Affairs Ministry, the one next to Foreign Affairs. Then they will decide, but what I hear it’s either Woodlands Police station or Ridgeway,” he said.
He said he has readied his belongings to spend time in cells.
“Bwino bwino fye (I have prepared well), hahahaha! We are ready,” Mwamba said.
He said his lawyers have prepared for bail conditions, but “usually when they are determined to detain you, and more especially when it’s coming from the top, there is nothing that they can do, even our lawyers. Unless they change now when we go there. But according to the instructions is that ‘he must be detained and I should only come out tomorrow’,” Mwamba said. “It’s about the 2012 issue.”
He said he was used to being arrested, saying he had gone through “a lot of persecutions” when different presidents came into office.
“So this one, what he is doing, I think he’s trying to exercise his powers. He wants GBM to know that he’s now in power, which we know he is. But he must realise than sooner rather than later he will also lose power. He will just be one of us. And you know God willing he may find that probably we are the ones also in power, controlling the country,” said Mwamba. “So persecution I think is not the best thing to do when you have powers, because at the end of the day other people will also be in power and they will also persecute you. Yah!”
The Joint Investigations Team has last March recorded a warn and caution statement from Mwamba commonly known as GBM aged 63 of Lusaka.
This is for the offences of Conflict of Interest Contrary to Section 28 subsection 2 as read with subsection 3 of the Anti-Corruption Act number 3 of 2012 and Section 73 subsection One as read with Section 77 subsection One of the Public Procurement Act Number 12 of 2008.
It is further alleged that Mwamba was in possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of crime Contrary to Section 71 of the forfeiture of proceeds of Crime Act Number 19 of 2010.
Mwamba was further warned and cautioned for the offence of Fraudulent False Accounting Contrary to Section 326 of the Penal Code Act Cap 87 of the Laws of Zambia.
This is in relation to various contracts awarded to a company known as Curzon Global Limited by the Ministry of Defence in 2013 when he was Minister of Defence amounting to over 7-point One million dollars where he allegedly had an interest.
Further, the team has warned and cautioned Adolphus Mubanga aged 58 of Makeni, in Lusaka, a country representative for Curzon Global Limited for the offence of being in possession of property reasonably suspected to be proceeds of Crime Contrary to Section 71 of the forfeiture of proceeds of Crime Act Number 19 of 2010.
