The Zambia police has urged the public to exercise extreme caution and responsibility by refraining from organising or participating in public processions until further notice.

In a statement, police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga stated that the health and safety of citizens is of paramount importance, and collective measures must be taken to contain the spread of Cholera.

“In light of the current Cholera outbreak affecting our community, the Zambia Police Service urgently urges the public to exercise extreme caution and responsibility by refraining from organizing or participating in public processions until further notice. The health and safety of our citizens are of paramount importance, and we must take collective measures to contain the spread of Cholera,” Hamoonga stated.

He stated that the Ministry of Health has declared a Cholera outbreak in certain areas, and the situation requires immediate attention and concerted efforts from all members of the community.

Hamoonga stated that public gatherings, especially in the form of processions, pose a significant risk of exacerbating the spread of the disease.

“As a result, the Zambia Police Service, in collaboration with relevant health authorities, advises against holding public processions until the Cholera situation is under control. We appeal to the public to prioritize their well-being and that of their fellow citizens by avoiding large gatherings and complying with health guidelines,” he stated.

“Furthermore, in the interest of public safety, the Zambia Police Service National Ball, which was scheduled to take place on Friday, January 12, 2024, is hereby postponed to a later date. We will announce the rescheduled date once the situation permits the safe holding of such a gathering.”

Hamoonga stated that the Zambia Police appreciate the understanding and cooperation of the public in these challenging times and it remains committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all citizens.

“Let us all join hands in combating the Cholera outbreak and safeguarding the health of our community. For further updates and information, please stay tuned to official channels and local news sources. Together, we can overcome this challenge,” stated Hamoonga.
