In their quest to uncover individuals responsible for the creation of a fake Facebook posting suggesting that the police surrounded Catholic Bishop Telesphore Mpundu’s residence, the police summoned and interrogated NDC leader Saboi Imboela in connection with the same.
The posting in question alleged that a few days after Bishop Mpundu issued a statement that President Hakainde Hichilema was a one team President and the country was under dictatorship, the police had surrounded his residence.
However, the police issued a statement distancing itself from the statement circulating on social media.
Deputy police public relations officer called on members of the general public to note that there was no truth in the statement and that it should be treated with the contempt it deserved.
“Further, we have instituted investigations to find out the persons behind the false statement so that they should be held accountable for their actions,” Mwale stated.
A few days later, the police summoned Imboela to appear at Police Service headquarters on Monday for questioning.
The reason for the summons had not been disclosed.
After she appeared, police sources told Daily Revelation that she was summoned in connection with Bishop Mpundu’s posting.
The sources said she arrived at the police station at 10:00 hours and was there for about three hours.
They said the opposition leader was interviewed by Harrington Akushanga, the chief investigations officer of the anti-fraud unit.
“They really didn’t even get anything concrete from the interview because they were fishing all over the place.
In a statement, NDC media director Mambwe Zimba stated that Imboela had been cleared of any wrong relating to the post as the post did not originate from her page.
Zimba stated that upon asking the police if all people who shared the story would be questioned by the police, the police stated that they had already called many in relation to the post and many more were yet to be called.
