UPND Feira Constituency aspiring candidate for 2026 Orahh Hatoombe has warned street kids against drug abuse as it would negatively impact their lives.
Speaking after he together with Mark Charity Foundation conducted a sensitisation outreach with the street kids found at the flyover bridge near Levy Junction Mall in Lusaka, on the dangers of drug abuse, Hatoombe told the street kids that if they continue to abuse drugs, they will struggle to maintain relationships.
“lf you are abusing drugs, you will certainly struggle to maintain relationships, needlessly even establishing relationships. Because drugs make you veer off the molasses in which us humans traverse,” Hatoombe said.
He said President Hakainde Hichilema and his government should be commended for the role they are playing in sensitising people about drug abuse.
Hatoombe said President Hichilema and the government are already doing enough in terms of sensitising people about drug abuse.
“We also highlighted to them quiet strongly how the leadership of his Excellency Hakainde Hichilema has actually worked in line to enhance the legal ramifications surrounding the issues of drugs, l thank government not that I speak on their behalf. But l think it’s been evident enough that they are putting a lot of effort into educating the masses on the abuse of drugs. I think the President is very strong on that aspect to try by all means to have our colleagues, the young boys and girls and adults alike to know issues to do with drugs to avoid drug abuse,” Hatoombe said.
And Mark charity foundation founder, Markdevies Simulengula said the purpose of the visit by the foundation was to sensitise the youths on the dangers of drug abuse.
“So our main purpose is to end poverty in Zambia, so we are mainly concerned with helping the vulnerable people in our society who are orphans, disabled street kids .But here we come specifically to educate on drug abuse,” Simulengula said.
The street kids complained bitterly that the police have been tormenting them, if they are found at the flyover bridge they get arrested.
