Consider investing in solid waste for income generation – Governance Exprt

Governance Expert Bwalya Matafwali has called on the government to consider investing in solid waste materials for income generation and increased production.

Matafwali said government should look at other innovative ways through which solid waste management can be addressed in communities by looking at solid waste as a resource.

In an interview with Daily Revelation, Matafwali said recycling, if well-funded, had the potential not only to create jobs but keeping the environment clean as every litter would be considered as money.

“We have seen a lot of plastics, cans, different types of waste materials that can actually be recycled. If you go to developed countries, you can never find any litter around, because they know it’s money,” he said.

Matafwali said a lot of plastic and waste materials that could be recycled had been considered useless.

He said the government should commit to supporting the recycling industry as it could contribute to job creation and protect the environment.

“Even fecal matter can be made into something useful. If we can come up with industries that would venture into recycling, we can make money and clean the environment,” he said.

Matafwali urged the government to come up with industries and empower people who have been collecting plastic waste for recycling.
