Two children of the same family in Ndola have died after they allegedly fell into a well while playing.
Copperbelt province police commanding officer Peacewell Mweemba confirmed to Daily Revelation that the incident happened on Friday around 18:00 hours in Chipulukusu Compound.
Mweemba named the deceased as Comfort Mulekwa 3 and Moses Sichone 4, both of the same address.
Mweemba said after their parents noticed that the minor’s were not in the house, they became suspicious and started looking for them.
“Brief facts of the matter are that around 18:00hrs, the minors were at home playing and suddenly disappeared from the parents who thought that they were just within the vicinity as usual. It was after some time elapsed and parents started searching for children and later reported the matter at Mapalo police post after 20:00 hours,” he said.
He said while still searching for the children, there was information that two children had drowned in the well.
“After rushing there, the family found the two minors being retrieved from the well by well wishers within the neighborhood,” he said
Mweemba said Police officers rushed to the scene and confirmed the incident.
He said the bodies had since been taken to Davison Children’s Hospital (ADCH) awaiting possible postmortem and burial while an inquiry file had been opened.
