Muvombo responds to allegations he’s being used by UPND to bribe electorates

Muvombo Development Initiative (MDI) managing director Winter Muvombo says there is nothing wrong with his organisation donating cows to feed UPND foot soldiers who are camped in Kawambwa for the council chairperson by-election.

Kawambwa residents went to the polls yesterday to elect a new council chairperson after the incumbent Kalimba Chifumbe was sentenced to five years for malicious damage to property, together with Kawambwa member of parliament Nickson Chilangwa and his Pambashe counterpart Ronald Chitotela who was convicted of arson.

MDl in partnership with UPND have taken 10 cows to Kawambwa, but this decision has not sat well with the opposition who have complained that the UPND is giving cows to the electorate in Kawambwa in order to entice them to vote for its candidate.

But speaking to Daily Revelation in an interview, Muvombo said there was nothing wrong with his organisation giving food to the foot soldiers.

He added that nothing stopped the opposition from doing the same as well.

“Those are cry-babies, why are they failing to buy the same animals and feed their foot soldiers? What is wrong for the party to feed their own members who work for the same party?” he asked.

“Like I said, we are supporting party members who are in the campaign trial. Our target is to ensure food is available for our party members to eat once they come back from their campaign trials. Distribution is only done in camps.”

On complaints by the opposition participating in the by-election that the UPND was using government resources which they were giving to MDl, to buy food for the electorates, Muvombo described the same as lies because his organisation was not funded by the government.

“False accusations you can even see that they have run out of political message to convince the people and now they are depending on propaganda. MDI is building two teachers houses in Chindi Zimba district, we were in Zimba to give grants to our struggling marketeers, MDI sponsored independence song I am sure you have seen our logo, wait a minute you can go to any government department see if we have collected any money from them, we have our own resources,” said Muvombo.

“We are using our own resources, PF must be ready to see more MDI collaboration with UPND on the ground and no amount of lies or false accusations will fail us to attain our predicted goal. If PF have nothing in their head please let them apply to MDI. We have a team we will advise them on political strategies.”
