MMD leader Nevers Mumba says he will not contest the 2026 general elections but will instead endorse President Hakainde Hichilema to retain his position.
And UPND secretary general Batuke Imenda says elections is about numbers.
Imenda said this at the UPND secretariat in Lusaka, where his party and the MMD have entered into an alliance.
He also called on other political parties to join in.
“We welcome the MMD to the alliance, we are calling on other parties to come as well,” said Imenda.
President Hakainde Hichilema is among the officials attending the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two parties.
Vice-president Mutale Nalumango is expected to officiate and is also in attendance.
MMD leader Dr Nevers Mumba and his vice Reuben Sambo are among opposition officials attending the event.
