PF Lusaka provincial vice-youth chairperson Kelvin Kaunda, says the party members will raise the K2 million for hosting the party convention.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Kaunda said the party members yesterday held a meeting, with representation from some central committee members, where it was resolved to hold the conference in January 2022, as opposed to June 2022.
The party grassroots viciously opposed the resolution by their central committee to hold the convention in June 2022, accusing former president Edgar Lungu of working with others to hold on to the presidency.
“Yes, details are that yesterday we had a consultative meeting, with some members of the central committee as well as the leadership from the other provinces and we agreed in principle that the membership of the party are going to raise the funding for the convention and we have also in principle agreed that the convention will be on the 28, 29th January 2022 as opposed to the June arrangement,” Kaunda said. “Temporary we have a temporal budget which is yet to be validated which is K2 million. Well tentatively we need to be as economical as possible.”
Asked if the central committee would be agreeable to the same resolution despite having had some of their members represented in yesterday’s meeting, Kaunda said: “We had about six of them. They should be able to agree because their argument was money, if we are able to find money for them what is there for them not to agree? I don’t have their permission to disclose. The only thing I was given to do is I can make the information public because that was the resolution of the meeting.”
He said the officials from the other provinces joined in the meeting via zoom.
Asked if he felt party leaders had bowed to the pressure from himself and the others, Kaunda said he would not draw that conclusion, saying the party may have overlooked another avenue through which they could raise the money through the members.
