Savenda Electrical and Electronics has entered into a contract with ESCOM of Malawi for the supply and delivery of 47,700 smart energy meters, 25,000 water meters and 82,500 LED bulbs.
And Savenda Electrical and Electronics Limited general manager Joo Chunga has urged local companies in the manufacturing sector to take advantage and seize business opportunities presented in the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Chunga said several Zambian manufacturing companies had built sufficient capacity to produce high quality products that met international standards.
He urged fellow local manufacturing companies to seize business opportunities presented in regional markets such as the AfCFTA.
“We further urge Zambian consumers to stop going outside the country and import certain products but support local entities whose products are of high quality and have been embraced in the region,” Chunga said.
Chunga’s call is in line with objectives of the African Union aimed at promoting intra-African trade that strengthens local economies through value addition and promotes job creation, among other positive developmental aspects.
From January 2025 to date, Savenda Electrical and Electronics has penetrated markets in Malawi, Zimbabwe, eSwatini and Madagascar through supplying of thousands of energy saving bulbs, electricity and water meters that are manufactured at its Makeni factory in Lusaka.
“But the biggest catch is the contract with JIRAMA of Madagascar, which has engaged us to supply three million LED rechargeable bulbs, 300,000 electricity meters and 240,000 smart water meters,” said Chunga.
He said in its in quest to diversify the energy portfolio, Savenda Electrical and Electronics Limited in partnership with JIRAMA shall install a 450 megawatts floating solar power plant at a Dam in Madagascar.
In Zimbabwe, the company has so far exported 40,000 LED bulbs while 10,000 smart energy meters will be exported to eSwatini.
