The violence in Kabwata is being caused by disgruntled UPND members, says UPND member Christine Phiri.
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Phiri, the losing UPND Milanzi Parliamentary candidate in the 2021 general elections, says she is aware of some disgruntled UPND members who have not been given positions, or those who have not gotten what they wished for, as being the ones behind the violence.
She said “the disgruntled” members are sponsoring youths to commit crime in order to portray a bad image of the party.
“You know Zambians generally hate violence and they stay away from any political party that is violent, therefore this is the aim of some disgruntled members to tarnish the image of the party. If you have listened to one of the audios making the rounds, I have traced some two women in it. They used to be PF members and were insulting Edgar Lungu always,” Phiri said. “They defected to the UPND and now they are insulting President Hakainde Hichilema.”
Phiri urged the UPND leadership to be firm by allowing the police to deal with the perpetrators of crime.
“By being violent or by inciting violence they know that UPND will become unpopular on the ground. It’s a deliberate action to sabotage,” said Phiri.
