Ng’ombe Market traders participate in 2km volunteer clean-up in Mandevu Constituency. Council says, “contribution toward transforming our community into a cleaner and healthier place is a significant endeavor.
New Heaven New Earth (Head Instructor: Lee Jaemin) announced that on the 18th, it conducted a “Cleaning Day” volunteer activity along a 2km stretch around Ng’ombe Market.
Approximately 100 participants joined the event, including church members of New Heaven New Earth, students from Zion Christian Mission Center, and marketeers from the market association. Participants collected garbage piled up throughout the streets. This was the second clean-up campaign following the first street-cleaning activity held last December, and participation expanded this time to include market traders and local medical institutions.
The Mandevu City Council also provided administrative support for the event. Lusaka Waste Solid Integrated Management supplied a truck for transporting waste, while a council representative delivered the opening remarks encouraging resident participation.
Due to the schedule of Mandevu Ward Councilor Luka Phiri, representative Pumulo Nyambe delivered the opening speech.
Nyambe stated, “On behalf of the councilor, I sincerely thank you for providing such a meaningful volunteer program.” He continued, “Your environmental clean-up efforts are making a significant contribution toward transforming our community into a cleaner and healthier place. The council fully supports your efforts, and we hope you will continue this spirit of volunteerism in the future as well.”At the site, local traders worked together with volunteers in cleaning activities, strengthening the sense of community unity.
Ng’ombe Market chief representative Charles Daka said, “Cleaning the market is directly connected to the health of residents. A clean environment leads to safer food purchases and is also effective in preventing infectious diseases.” He added, “We hope to establish a regular cleaning system that will foster continuous cooperation among community residents.”
Ng’ombe Clinic, a local medical institution, also participated with 30 medical staff members volunteering directly in the activity.
The clinic’s officer in charge of health and environmental sanitation stated, “We had been trying to address sanitation problems, but lacked sufficient manpower and resources. This activity became an opportunity for the entire community to work together in solving the issue.”
The officer further emphasized that “efforts to improve sanitation awareness must continue.”
Richard Chilufya representative of New Heaven New Earth explained, “This activity was planned to address worsening sanitation conditions caused by blocked drainage systems and accumulated waste during the rainy season.”
The representative added, “Through regular environmental clean-up activities, New Heaven New Earth aim to help prevent the spread of waterborne diseases such as cholera and typhoid while contributing to improved community hygiene.”
This is to show the Love of God in a practical way.
