Trauma is there, says Nalumango after surviving helicopter crash

By Angela Moonga

Vice-President Mutale Nalumango has thanked God for preserving her life and the seven others she survived a helicopter crash with in Nakonde yesterday.

Speaking on Diamond TV yesterday following the crash, Vice-President Nalumango said she had some trauma from the incident, although ‘not one that would last for more than minutes.’

“I don’t know what to call it. Yes, the plane kind of crashed, (but) here I am talking and the whole team. God is gracious, all of us that were in the plane which was 8 people, all of us are fine,” Nalumango said. “Of course the plane is damaged, if not totally. Can you imagine we are all fine? We thank God and we continue with our work.”

Nalumango said she could not tell what happened with the plane as she was not a mechanic, but that it happened about two minutes into flight after her Nakonde rally as they were heading for another engagement in Isoka.

She said her concern was the life of people as even the pilots also survived.

“Believe you me, it has happened and God has done his own … Yes, trauma is there but it’s not trauma that goes on for 30 minutes,” said Nalumango. “I believe all things being equal we will continue with our programmes starting tomorrow.”

Nalumango said those who love prayer should join her in thanking God as he knew why he always kept people alive.

Asked if there were politicians on her flight, Nalumango said she was with people who attended to her office.

She said the doctors had checked her vitals which showed that she was fine, and that they wanted to observe her for a few more hours.

Nalumango said she did not think there was anyone so evil including in the opposition who could have wished her dead.

She said the opposition were happy that she was alive.

She thanked the pastors with whom she said she had prayers in the morning with for their prayers.
