Speaking during the rally held at Chiwempala grounds in Chingola on Wednesday, President Hichilema said all those who would be working at the two dumpsites will have their work legalised and they will be doing their mining safely.
“And in order to address our children, our community for them to find where to work from I, Bally, because of my love for the jerabos and for the community, we have decided to make available OB 22. In addition, we have also made available OB 19. These dumps are for the community, jerabos and the community of Chingola,” he said. “So as we promised all those working from OB 22 and OB 19 we’ll make sure that the work is done legally, you are doing safely. We don’t want our children to die again. You must do it properly and trade properly. And you have the markets to sell the materials to, including the equipment. The equipment will be there so that you don’t die in OB 22 and OB 19.”
President Hichilema also gave K10 million to marketeers who were affected by the fire which swept through Chiwempala market last year.
“I promised the marketeers that l personally l will provide the support. In addition to what we are doing as a government, I as an individual, Bally, today, I have brought the K10 million l promised marketeers,” he said. “So I will ask the team to manage it so that we don’t fight over K10 million l have already brought it. It is here, once l am gone you will start managing properly, the (same) way you managed the $4 million.”
And President Hichilema said his government had revived Konkola Copper Mines (KCM) which he said was put under liquidation by the PF government.
“Are they not the same people who put KCM in liquidation? They are the ones who put in liquidation. We are the ones who have revived. Who is good, the one who put in liquidation or the one who has revived it?” asked President Hichilema.
