NRPUP presidential candidate Brian Mundubile says President Hakainde Hichilema and the Food Reserve Agency (FRA) must stop “fooling” the people over the announcement of maize floor price.
Speaking during a campaign rally in Luangwa on Tuesday afternoon, Mundubile said the way the UPND government had handled the maize marketing season justified what he had been telling the Zambian people that they had failed to govern.
“By today they are yet to announce the maize floor price. They are saying that there is no moisture content … The President was on the stage saying that ‘l have told FRA to start buying maize because moisture content is low.’ Then the chairman of FRA holds a press briefing and says ‘no, the moisture content is still very high,’” Mundubile said.
“So who is telling the truth? When we say this government of our friends has failed, this is what we are talking about. What we want to tell President Hakainde Hichilema today, wr are saying Mr President go and sit down with the chairman of FRA and listen to each other. Stop fooling people.”
Mundubile said President Hichilema and the government had money to buy other candidates to withdraw from standing, but they had no money to buy maize from the farmers.
“If a president stops fearing people you must remove him. For them the money they have is to buy other candidates. The President’s people are all over the country as l speak to you, they have a lot of money which they are giving candidates, telling them ‘get this K20 million go and withdraw. Get this K5 million go and withdraw.’ But the money to give, the money to buy maize, they are saying that no the moisture content is high.”
Meanwhile, Mundubile promised the farmers in Rufunsa that he would be giving them eighty bags of fertilizer when elected. He said if he failed to do that, the people should go on the radio to denounce him, adding that they would not be arrested using cyber laws as it was happening now.
