Citizens First (CF) leader Harry Kalaba says corrupt politicians avoid working with him because they fear he would arrest them if elected into office.
Addressing a rally in the Luapula provincial capital Mansa today, Kalaba said CF was a party that was founded on the anti-corruption platform.
“Your organisation CF hates corruption that’s why most of them don’t want to join because they fear they will be arrested,” Kalaba said. “We want people’s money to come to you the poor people. That’s why they are lying that Kalaba doesn’t want to work with others.”
Kalaba said if someone who joined the party two months ago and decided to move on to other parties they were free to go because the owners of the party were still around.
He said one day it shall surely shine even to those who doubt him.
Kalaba said the Social Cash Transfer had his signature as he was the one late president Michael Sata assigned to append his signature as Foreign Affairs minister.
He said he was among the key architects of the programme and would ensure that the beneficiaries and amounts given to people were increased.
Kalaba said as opposed to people getting K800 after every two months, he would increase the amount to K2000 to be paid monthly to the beneficiaries. He said vulnerable men and women would be included on the programme.
He said he would also work on the terrible road network in Mansa and the rest of the country, saying he had experienced first hand how people lived like foreigners in their own land by travelling on the same roads.
And CF central committee member Haggai Chitala said the same people in Tonse who were saying they wanted the opposition to work together, went behind Kalaba’s back and “bought off” his running-mate thinking they would damage the CF president’s political ambitions.
He said Sata knew why he appointed Kalaba to serve as one of the senior most ministers, the same seniority he said non of the Tonse leaders enjoyed.
