Citizens First (CF) leader Harry Kalaba says it is wrong for NRPUP presidential candidates Brian Mundubile and his running-mate Makebi Zulu to have in their manifesto that they will release their imprisoned friends from jail.
Featuring on Radio Icengelo, Kalaba said someone seeking the presidency should not be promising to release people to release their friends from prison. He said even the prerogative of mercy entitled to a President to free prisoners should be done in consideration of the many other prisoners who have been behind bars as opposed to just focussing on friends.
Kalaba said this was the same mistake President Hakainde Hichilema was making as he was focussed more on fulfilling his personal wishes against his opponents.
“It can’t be a manifesto surely to say ‘when we come we shall release our friends from prison.’ Can that surely be a manifesto? Some who have been arrested it’s out of spite by UPND because of the hatred between PF and UPND,” Kalaba said. “If the PF managed to win elections, these same ones you are calling Tonse, a lot in the UPND would be arrested as revenge.”
He said the UPND had imprisoned innocent people who should never even be in jail because of revenge.
“Of course some are not innocent. So if you say you will come and release them then that is wrong. Maybe the right thing to say is that you will grant them judicial passage like my friends (Nixon) Chilangwa and (Ronald) Chitotela. They have even just failed to give them chance for bail, it’s part of the judicial process,” Kalaba said. “But I can’t say me who wants the presidency that I will come and release them. A president doesn’t release people from prison. He can use the prerogative of mercy … When saying you will release them when you win elections, take it easy. It’s not like that. That is not how governance works because it’s not just about wanting to fulfil our wishes. That’s the mistake HH is making.”
He said when President Hichilema came he thought he was a starring, and that’s why most things had gone wrong in the country .
He said time to beat him next week had come because of his bad ways.
“Balakumana nenshiku (He will meet his days),” he said.
He said no one should say Zambia was better than the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) when they were adding value to vitenges.
He said people used to say that Dr Kenneth Kaunda was not learned yet he established industries in the country.
He said Zambia needed a leadership like Dr Kaunda’s which loved the country as opposed to the selfish leadership President Hichilema had brought about.
“He comes and starts making ifima company fyama Zesco ati Kanona Energy. Industries they also get into that. They have destroyed the country,” Kalaba said.
Kalaba denounced those who were calling him as a spoiler, saying “ichibeleshifye chekacheka (it’s just too much familiarity).”
He said spoilers were those who were coming with their smaller parties at the last minute and saying they wanted to be the ones to take the driver’s seat.
He said Zambians should decide whether those who were there and ate should come back again and continue eating.
