Power Dynamos coach Osward Mutapa says their just ended fortnight long preseason training camp in Tswane met their set objectives but it does make the final part of the final phase preparations at home for their continental and domestic campaign a secondary matter.
The Kitwe giants on Monday wrapped up a 14 day long camp in South Africa where they played 6 local and regional clubs as part of their transitional 2026 FAZ Super League campaign that starts on September 13 and the 2026/2027 CAF Champions League races that commences a week earlier on September 4.
Mutapa told Power Dynamos media in Tswane that more intensive pre-season work continues between now and their first competitive games in the first week of September.
“It has gone on well. We have had a good 12 days, I would say, where we have played 6 games. And it’s important because we needed mileage in the legs of our players, which I think 6 games in 12 days is enough to put mileage in the legs,” Mutapa said.
Power played their final friendly on Monday morning against fellow FAZ Super League club Green Eagles, who are holding a preseason camp in South Africa.
Eagles beat Power 2-1 in that match.
Other friendlies Power played include a 2-0 loss to Pretoria University FC, a 2-0 victory over Eswatini club Nsingizini Hotspurs and a 3-0 win over University of Johannesburg FC.
Power also recorded 1-0 and 2-0 wins over Free State United and a 4-1 victory against Casric Stars.
“And I think that was most important. But also trying to make the players bond with the other new players that have come in, the young ones that have come in also. But it is also to gel, know one another as we pursue in retaining the league and also in the camp competition,” Mutapa said.
Power will start their competitive campaign away in the preliminary round of the CAF Champions League against Sudanese club El Merriekh during the weekend of September 4-6.
“Yes, going back to Zambia. We still have about two weeks before we play our first CAF game. We have a four-club tournament that will make us ready for the CAF competition. It’s unfortunate that the league would have not resumed by then because we could have played two or three competitive league games that would have helped us,” Mutapa said.
“Nevertheless, we have the four club tournament that will help us.”
