PeP leader Sean Tembo has retired from active politics as he.now transitions to private life.
Tembo contested the Roma seat in the 2026 general elections but lost to UPND’s Thomas Sipalo.
He has been leader of PeP for the last 10 years. He sought to contest the 2026 general elections under his own party as running-mate to Chanda Katotobwe but were disappointed at the last minute when they discovered that their party records at the Registrar of Societies had been illegally changed to reflect as a religious organisation and not a political party. Efforts to rectify the error with state authorities failed.
And now a few days from losing the parliamentary elections, Tembo has announced his intentions to retire entirely from politics.
”After careful consideration and extensive consultations with family and friends, I have decided to retire from active politics with immediate effect. Coincidentally, today marks exactly 10 years since I founded the Patriots for Economic Progress (PeP). Even though I did not succeed to be elected to any public office in the past 10 years, I stand proud of the political contributions that I have made thus far. Most notably, the annual PeP Alternative National Budgets, as well as extensive jurisprudence on political cases in the High Court and Constitutional Court of Zambia,” stated Tembo. “I am also grateful for the many friends and acquaintances that my political career allowed me to acquire, over the years. I am also thankful to those who believed in me and supported my political career over the years. As I transition to a private life, I shall keep on praying for God the Almighty, to keep blessing our Nation, Zambia. Thank you.”
