I DON’T HAVE CLEARANCE FROM KAIZAR TO COMMENT – MAKEBI … sources say Kaizar has not appeared, one month after he was summoned by police

Lusaka lawyer Makebi Zulu says he does not have any instructions from his client Kaizar Zulu to comment on information indicating that police have not enforced their summons, despite having summoned him over a month ago, with assertions indicating that he is being courted to become a state witness over alleged impropriety in former president Edgar Lungu’s administration.

Speaking with Daily Revelation, Zulu was asked on information that Zulu was being courted to become a state witness and that there was a hold up on his appearance before Woodlands police, despite having been summoned to appear there during the same period Bowman Lusambo was arrested, over a month ago. However, Zulu said he did not have instructions from his client to comment on the matter.

Asked on information around the issue of state witness, Zulu responded: “Who wants to be turned into a state witness?”

“I don’t have those instructions. And if the police want him they know what to do. We have never been in a position not to take a client there whenever they need a client. But if you are saying that they want him as a witness then that is something different, I don’t have instructions from my client. I will need to talk to him,” Zulu said.

The rest of the conversation flowed as follows:

Journalist: Then what about information that he was summoned before the Woodlands police but you could not take him there at that time as you were attending to the other pressing matter involving Mr Lusambo?

Zulu: Well I am not in a position to comment over that…I am saying I do not have clearance from my client to comment unless I get clearance from him. I am not in a position to comment.

Journalist: So since he did not appear then when do you feel like, haven’t you received any further call(s) since that time you received that, we are told you received that call sometime last month?

Zulu: No we haven’t received any call requiring us to go there

Journalist: But of course you received a call earlier from Woodlands police that you take him there?

Zulu: No I didn’t receive a call from Woodlands, I received a call from the client

Journalist: From the client, on what? That he was wanted by the police?

Zulu: Hehehehe (laughs). Mr Chilemba!

Journalist: I am a journalist sir, I am sure you being a…Counsel we flow in the same (asking questions flow)!

Zulu: I know, I know but that is as far as I can comment.

Journalist: But … Counsel (laughs) it’s just a straight forward question to say you received a call from the client to say he was wanted by Woodlands police?

Zulu: Is that so?

Journalist: Yes!

Zulu: It’s not as straight forward as you think.

Journalist: Why State Counsel?

Zulu: I will comment when I have instructions, not without instructions.

Journalist: No, Counsel enjoy your day and all the best.

Zulu: Enjoy yours too

Journalist: Thank you

Kaizar Zulu when contacted by Daily Revelation indicated that he did not have any information about being courted to become a state witness in order to indemnify himself over what he was being summoned for.

Kaizar’s relationship particularly with Local Government minister Garry Nkombo has caused uneasy in the PF circles, although others have indicated that the two are somehow related.

Sources says Kaizar was recently spotted with Nkombo in Kafue.
