Information and Media minister minister Chushi Kasanda say the remains of the two Zambia Air Force (ZAF) pilots who died in a plane crash in Livingstone will be brought into Lusaka tomorrow.
Kasanda told Daily Revelation that the remains of the two will lay in state, with burial of one taking place in Lusaka, while the other will be buried in Chingola.
“Both are being brought into Lusaka tomorrow, they will lay in state and then the Colonel is going to be buried in Chingola and the Lieutenant will be buried here in Lusaka. But we will have the statement done by the end of this afternoon,” said Kasanda, who is also the chief government spokesperson.
The two-seater aircraft the two were flying in crashed approximately 38 kilometers from Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula Airport, claiming the lives of ZAF Livingstone station commander Colonel Lyson Siame aged 42 and second Lieutenant Kalasa Bwalya aged 27.
On the death of 2012 Afcon winning team Doctor, Dr Joseph Kabungo who lost his life in the stampede after angry Nigerian fans stormed the pitch following the elimination of Nigeria in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers by Ghana, Kasanda said she would need to first collaborate with the other officials before issuing a statement.
Dr Kabungo was a CAF medical committee member and the first Zambian to sit on the FIFA medical committee.
He was on duty as doping officer in Nigeria at the time of his death.
