Judith Kabemba has described information that she has received K150,000 from State House to destabilise Harry Kalaba’s Democratic Party (DP) as “rubbish and nonsense.”
Speaking with Daily Revelation, Kabemba, who has sued Kalaba over the leadership of the DP, described assertions as coming from people who had no political future.
Asked on assertions that she was being used by the ruling UPND to sow discord in the opposition DP, Kabemba said people can speculate anything, but that does not mean that that is how things were.
“People will say anything. They will insinuate anything but the truth of the matter remains that we are DP and we are not being funded by anybody. If the UPND is funding us, the UPND could have started by changing the DP constitution. Is it the UPND who made the constitution of the DP to say the DP has no party president? Mind you, the DP constitution was submitted at the Registrar of Societies in 1991,” she said, adding that the party constitution says the highest position in the party was that of national chairperson. “Cohabiting according to the Zambian law is not marriage. No matter how long you cohabit with a person it does not translate into marriage. The DP was cohabiting with Harry.”
Asked to respond to assertions that she and group were recently given K150,000 from State House to conduct political activities to further destabilise the DP, Kabemba described the assertions as “rubbish by people who have no political future and political muscle.”
“And I want to presume that it may be coming from one former presidential candidate who is now party-less,” said Kabemba, however this information did not get to Daily Revelation through the “former presidential candidate” she referred to. “My appeal to you, because I am also responding to your question is that please quote that Judith Kabemba says that the assertions that we have been sponsored by State House is rubbish, it’s nonsense and it’s coming from a former presidential candidate of some political party who is party-less.”
Contacted to respond to Kabemba’s assertions, DP leader Kalaba refused to comment saying he will not allow people to have a name “because of me.”
Kabemba said the DP was doing fine, saying “I think we are the next hope for Zambia.”
He said Kalaba could never claim to be a husband to the woman he had never laid dowry for, arguing that “Mr. Kalaba is not DP. Mr. Kalaba is a PF surrogate who wants to bring confusion in our party.”
She claimed that when the PF leaves office, DP would form the next government.
Kabemba said the registrar of societies said they did not know any person by the name of Harry Kalaba in the records, saying the party simply hired him to contest the elections as presidential candidate.
“We hired him. He was our hired, I don’t know for lack of better term, Harry Kalaba is a hired gun of PF. We simply hired him and the contract has since needed,” she said.
Asked to comment her comments on the audio asserting a conversation involving Home Affairs permanent secretary Josephs Akafumba and political advisor to the President Levy Ngoma conspiring against the Democrat Party of Harry Kalaba, Kabemba said the fact that the term purported was used with regards to that conversation, saying that shows that the whole thing was not concrete.
She said she was not a police officer to investigate issues, saying the matter was right now in the hands of the police and were waiting to hear the outcome of that investigation.
