ACT ON PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTIVE OVER FIC REPORT, URGES CHIPENZI

We expect law enforcers to act on the Financial Intelligence Centre report, nothing more; nothing less, says MacDonald Chipenzi.

The recently released Financial Intelligence Centre report has revealed that some prominent people have allegedly been engaging in money laundering activities and other financial crimes.

President Hakainde Hichilema has since stated that the Financial Intelligence Centre report will be submitted to the law enforcement agencies for further action.

Commenting on the said developments, Chipenzi, who is Governance Elections Advocacy Research Services executive director, said that GEARS Initiative expects the law enforcement agencies to take action on the FIC report, instead of shelving the said report; which he said was usually the case during the previous regime.

“Now that the FIC report is out and the President (Hakainde Hichilema) has said that the report will be submitted to the law enforcers so that they can take action on the same report, we expect that the law enforcement agencies will follow the Presidential directive and act on the report; unlike was the case on the other side, unlike was the case before,” said Chipenzi in an interview. “We expect the law enforcers to act on the Financial Intelligence Centre report, nothing more, nothing less.”

Chipenzi further implored the Head of State to follow through the actions that the law enforcement agencies will take on the Financial Intelligence Centre report.

“Considering the fact that the President is the one that has issued directives, we expect law enforcers to take action on this report, regardless of who has been cited in this issue – ethnicity and status in society – the President will supervise and supersede over the actions that will be taken by the law enforcers,” added Chipenzi.
